Behind the Brand — The Story Behind Tsukihana
Obi couture Tsukihana began with a quiet reverence for objects that carry time within them. Vintage Japanese obi are more than textiles—they hold memories, celebrations, and the subtle traces of the people who once wore them. Their gold threads, graceful motifs, and shifting seasonal colors whisper stories of the past. My work began from a desire to honor those stories rather than let them fade into storage.
Living alongside many rescued animals taught me that “care” can transform a life. In the same way, I felt compelled to care for these obi—each beautifully crafted, each deserving a second chapter. I started exploring ways to transform them into modern, wearable pieces that someone across the world might cherish.
Because of long-term health challenges, my pace is gentle and intuitive. There are days my hands can work, and days they cannot. Creation happens in the quiet spaces between rest and inspiration. This slow, attentive rhythm naturally leads to one-of-a-kind pieces crafted not by mass production, but by presence.
When an obi becomes a belt or a bag, it is not simply “upcycling.” It becomes a bridge—between past and present, Japan and the world, tradition and modernity. My hope is that each piece carries both beauty and meaning, offering something intimate, intentional, and very much alive.
Tsukihana is not just a brand; it is the continuation of stories woven long ago. And now, you become part of that story too.
