Meet the Creator

Obi couture Tsukihana is created by a Japanese artisan who has spent many years living closely with animals, textiles, and quiet moments of handmade work. Her life has been shaped by periods of recovery, deep reflection, and a renewed appreciation for gentle, meaningful creation. From these experiences arose a desire to breathe new life into vintage kimono obi—a wish to preserve beauty that might otherwise fade, and to transform it into something that can be worn, cherished, and carried into the future.

Working from her home studio in Hyōgo, Japan, she handles each vintage obi with a sense of reverence for the stories woven into it. She carefully studies every pattern—peonies symbolizing grace, clouds foretelling good fortune, chrysanthemums representing longevity—and chooses the most harmonious compositions for belts, bags, and accessories. Every piece is fully handcrafted, embracing both the imperfections and the quiet elegance of traditional textiles.

Her creative process is deeply personal. Living with physical challenges has taught her to work slowly and intentionally, valuing every hour of strength and inspiration. The animals who share her life—cats, birds, chickens—offer daily comfort and companionship, grounding her creativity in warmth and compassion. These small blessings shape the soul of Tsukihana: a brand that honors resilience, tenderness, and the beauty of continuing forward.

Through upcycling, she hopes to let these vintage obi travel once more—across borders, across time—so that someone in the world may feel a spark of joy, calm, or connection when wearing them. Each piece is truly one of a kind, crafted not only with skill but with heartfelt intention.

“May the stories of these textiles find a new chapter with you.”
